Overland Park, KS - Beginning today U.S. 69 Highway will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 151st to 167th Street until about Labor Day, Sept. 7.

The lane closures are to allow construction of a new interchange at 159th Street and U.S. 69.

A single northbound lane has been open since April. A single southbound lane is open through the construction zone effective today.

The lane reductions are so road crews can work at building auxiliary lanes for the new interchange.

The schedule for all work is dependent upon favorable weather conditions, allowing for construction crews to remain on schedule.

The new interchange will relieve congestion at the U.S. 69 and 151st Street Interchange and on 151st Street.

The project came about due to a first-of-its-kind agreement involving the state, the city and a private developer.

The Kansas Department of Transportation, Price Brothers and Overland Park are all contributing to the $18.9 million project.

Work on the project is set for completion later this year.

You can follow the progress on the city's road construction/stormwater projects webpage.
