UPDATE: Name of Drowning Victim Released

The name of the 42 year-old man who died in the drowning incident that occurred at the

Fiesta Square Apartments (9551 W. 85th), on Saturday evening June 20, is Merriam resident, Emmanuel E. Nyiti (DOB 3/21/73).

The cause of death is still under investigation.

At approximately 7:45 PM Overland Park Police Officers responded on a reported drowning at Fiesta Square Apartments, 9551 West 85^th Street. Upon arrival, officers found medical personnel administering CPR to the victim. CPR was discontinued after 30 minutes of unresponsiveness.

The victim is a 42 year-old male from Shawnee, Kansas, who was a guest of a Fiesta Square resident. Witnesses reported seeing the victim enter the pool at the shallow end and swim toward the deep end. At some point it was noticed he was not to be seen and was located on the bottom. CPR began immediately and was handed off when medical personnel arrived. The victim’s name is being withheld until family notifications can be made.
