Motorists looking for easier access to U.S. 69 other than 151st Street will have another option in less than two years.

Last week the City Council approved a $17.7 million bid to build an interchange at 159th Street and U.S. 69.

W
ork may begin as early as September. Crews will construct on and off ramps for the interchange, auxiliary lanes and bridge widening.

F
unding for the project is coming from a unique team involving the Kansas Department of Transportation, city of Overland Park and Price Brothers Development. For Overland Park, this is the first time a private developer has participated in funding a highway improvement.

P
rice Brothers owns 300 acres of land at the southwest corner of 159th Street and U.S. 69 Highway. It is zoned for residential, offices and retail. It also includes a new public safety facility for police and fire services.
