Work on the largest highway construction project in the history of Kansas - the Johnson County Gateway - is beginning its next phase.

This $288 million phase two includes work in Lenexa, Olathe and Overland Park. Its primary focus is I-435 and K-10. However, to accommodate the 230,000 daily vehicles that currently use the I-435/I-35/K-10 corridor, work areas will include city streets and other interchanges.

The westbound lanes of I-435, west of U.S. 69 in Overland Park, will be redone as part of the project. This is the only portion in Overland Park. It is set to begin later this spring.

A website, Johnson County Gateway, has the latest information about the project and lets visitors sign up for social media sites to follow updates. You can sign up to receive traffic alerts.

The Kansas Department of Transportation is the administrator of the project.
