Overland Park Firefighters made quick work of an apartment fire at the Point Royal Apartments tonight. Just after 11:30 p.m. Overland Park Firefighters were called to an apartment fire in the 12300 block of Craig street.

First units on the scene reported flames visible inside a ground level apartment. Crews quickly forced entry and extinguished a fire in a back living room area.

Firefighters searched the apartment and determined no one was home. Firefighters were ableto contain the fire to one unit. That unit suffered moderate fire damage and significant smoke damage. It is believed the unit did not have a working smoke alarm.

The exact cause is still under investigation. Overland Park Fire wants to remind everyone that a working smoke alarm is the cheapest form of life insurance you can buy. For more information on fire safety, you can visit the fire page at www.opkansas.org.
