The Overland Park Police Department has taken several reports this morning from residents who've indicated they've received calls from someone representing the Overland Park Police Department.

Police Warn Residents of 'Spoofing'Calls Representing the Overland Park Police Department

The caller uses a computer program to generate the police department's phone number to show up on the victim's caller ID.

This is obviously a scam in order to solicit money from residents. The scam may claim that a grandchild or family member has been arrested and in need of bail money, or something similar.

The Overland Park Police Department would never call anyone by phone requesting money.

If residents are contacted by someone posing as law enforcement demanding money, they are encouraged to contact the Overland Park Police Department.
