Overland Park Soccer Complex named number one in the nation

Less than three years old, the Overland Park Soccer Complex is the No. 1 soccer facility in the nation, according to Livability.com.
Livability cited, among its references, the fact that the Overland Park Soccer Complex is "the only complex of its kind in the United States. And get this, each field contains a cooling system to control the temperature of the turf. Evaporative cooling fans are located next to players' benches, and all fields have electronic video boards to post game results and information."
"The Overland Park Soccer Complex was built to add much needed soccer field inventory in this community to accommodate the growing and highly popular sport, and to strengthen the local economy with out-of-town teams staying in Overland Park hotels, eating at Overland Park restaurants and shopping in Overland Park stores," said Mayor Carl Gerlach.
"From coaches and managers of local and out-of-town teams, we consistently hear compliments regarding the design, location and management of the complex," Gerlach said.
Mike Laplante, soccer complex manager, has been at the facility prior to its opening in late August 2009.
"This is truly an honor for Overland Park when you consider the other communities listed in the Top 10," Laplante said. "We work with soccer clubs and teams to ensure that the Overland Park Soccer Complex remains a top destination for local play and regional and national tournaments."
The Soccer Complex will host the 2013 US Youth Soccer National Championship tournament. It has hosted the 2010 US Youth Soccer National Championship and this year's US Youth Soccer Region II President's Cup.
